Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while providing exceptional service to both patients and physicians. The LPN supports the efficient operation of the clinic by assisting with clinical procedures, patient assessments, and administrative tasks, while contributing to the organization’s goals for patient care, safety, and overall clinic performance.

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while providing exceptional service to both patients and physicians. The LPN supports the efficient operation of the clinic by assisting with clinical procedures, patient assessments, and administrative tasks, while contributing to the organization’s goals for patient care, safety, and overall clinic performance.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a busy medical clinic setting
- Triage patients and assess vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight
- Prepare patients for physician examinations and procedures
- Assist physicians with minor procedures and treatments
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as ordered by the physician
- Perform EKGs, wound care, ear flushing, and dressings, etc.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (biopsies, urine, swabs)
- Conduct point-of-care testing such as urine dips, pregnancy tests, etc.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and chart patient information
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatments, and follow-up care
- Monitor and maintain clinic supplies and medical equipment
- Ensure infection prevention and control protocols are followed
- Support physicians and clinic staff to maintain efficient patient flow
- Coordinate with pharmacies, labs, and other healthcare providers as needed
- Participate in clinic quality improvement and safety practices
- Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA)
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience in primary care or medical clinic setting preferred
- Experience with Med Access software is preferred
- Strong communication and patient care skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to adapt to challenges and change
- Able to follow directions as given by physicians and management
